I have driven some incredible roads during my years – the Alaskan Highway ranks right up there, an experience like no other! Opened in 1942, (yet some parts still only paved with gravel) every turn on the trail, brought a new vista that made you gasp. In a world of rolling hills, spruce forests, snow capped peaks, jet black lagoons and wildflowers lining the way, we were sojourners that had entered a wild land of wolves, moose, elk and Grizzly bears, which constantly crossed our path Westwards. We drove from Whitehorse, Yukon into Alaska and back. A remote beauty of a road, where you are more likely to encounter wildlife than people.
I was driving late one night (2am in the land of the midnight sun) when we came across a mother Grizzly bear and her cub grazing on the side of the road. I decided to pass her by and then came back to get some pictures. We watched as they munched there way through a late supper – not taking any interest in the tourists who were enjoying this incredible sight!
